Being a Woman in a Trade: My Experience as a Female Locksmith
7/23/20252 min read
When I first decided to become a locksmith, I knew it wouldn’t be the easiest path — especially as a woman entering a traditionally male-dominated trade. But I was passionate about the work, the problem-solving, and the independence it offers.
Working as a female locksmith on the Sunshine Coast has been an incredible journey of breaking stereotypes, learning every day, and proving that skill and dedication aren’t about gender — they’re about heart and hard work.
Why I Chose Locksmithing
For me, locksmithing isn’t just a job — it’s a craft. I love that every day is different: helping someone locked out, upgrading home security, or fixing a tricky lock problem. It’s hands-on, rewarding, and I get to connect with people in my community.
Being a woman in this trade means I can bring a fresh perspective and approach, especially when customers appreciate the professionalism and care I bring to every job.
The Challenges I’ve Faced
It hasn’t always been easy. Early on, I sometimes felt underestimated or had to prove my skills more than my male counterparts. But each challenge has made me stronger.
I’m proud to say that my clients trust me not only because of my knowledge but because I genuinely care about their safety and satisfaction.
What Being a Female Locksmith Means to Me
For me, this career is about breaking barriers. I want other women on the Sunshine Coast to see that they can succeed in trades — that it’s possible to build a respected, independent career doing something hands-on and technical.
I hope my story encourages more women to consider locksmithing or any trade that interests them.
